Churchyard memorials can be introduced at the discretion of the minister in charge of that particular church. The rules that they follow regarding the type of memorial that can be introduced are set by the diocese, but each application is taken individually. Some ministers will allow simple ornamentation, some won’t allow any at all. Please talk to us regarding what is, or is not, allowed in a particular churchyard.
We often advise that a headstone is not placed on a grave for at least 6 months after a burial has taken place. This is to allow the ground to settle, so that the memorial won’t be affected by any subsidence.
When dealing with cremated remains, we often achieve a greater feeling of closure by installing the memorial at the same time as interring the ashes.
We hold a selection of churchyard memorials in stock, which can usually be completed within a few weeks, provided all the necessary paperwork is completed.
